Associate Pastor - Job Description

Rationale

Calvary Baptist Church is looking to hire a second Associate Pastor, who will work on furthering the Kingdom of God in a variety of ministry environments at Calvary. This man will be responsible to work in conjunction and cooperation with the Pastors and Elders to provide and implement spiritual leadership in our church, including, but not limited to, the duties listed below. This position will especially focus on the children’s and family ministries of the church, coming alongside parents and grandparents in training the next generations to love and follow Jesus.

Qualifications

  •        Committed belief in Jesus Christ, with a clear profession of faith
  •        A heart for Jesus, his gospel, the local church, and reaching the lost
  •        At least 21 years old
  •        Agreement with our Statement of Faith (This can be viewed at calvarybaptistchurch.ca)
  •        Possession of the character traits and ministry skills of an overseer of the church, as described in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
  •        Gifting in communication and administration skills
  •        Up-to-date vulnerable sector check from the police
  •        A shared philosophy of ministry with the leadership of Calvary, including a desire to integrate families into worship services, to disciple using thoroughly biblical resources, and to train parents to be the primary spiritual leaders in children’s lives
  •        Active participation in Calvary Baptist Church, or another like-minded Evangelical church (Preference may be given to current members of Calvary Baptist Church)
  •        At least an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Christian ministry, biblical or theological studies and/or related ministry experience
  •  

Duties

  •        To provide spiritual leadership for the church, in conjunction with the pastors and elders
  •        To preach approximately 8-10 times a year
  •        To participate in regular pastoral visitation and shepherding care of church members
  •        To creatively help plan, operate, and lead children’s ministry in the Church as necessary. This includes oversight of the Nursery, Sunday School, and Children’s Church, along with any seasonal or mid-week children’s events or clubs.
  •        To oversee the recruitment, training, integration, and scheduling of volunteers in all children’s ministries, in conjunction with other ministry leaders
  •        To ensure that each ministry is equipped with necessary supplies, in conjunction with other ministry leaders
  •        To oversee the training, implementation, enforcement, and updating of the Church’s protection policies, as necessary—including migrating to Plan to Protect
  •        To help establish practices of better security and safety within children’s ministries
  •        To ensure that children’s ministry is an accessible, welcoming, and beneficial ministry for children with special needs, providing training to volunteers as needed
  •        To oversee and select curriculum and teaching materials for children’s Sunday School, Children’s Church, and Nursery, as necessary
  •        To work closely with any ministry coordinators under their oversight, working to ensure healthy interpersonal relationships and team dynamics
  •        To consult and work with the Facility Manager on all building needs for children’s ministry
  •        To regularly speak with or visit families in the church for the purpose of encouragement, discipleship, and pastoral shepherding
  •        To normally be present on Sunday mornings to help with the operation of children’s ministries, with the exception of vacation or other forms of leave
  •        To provide oversight of Nursery and Children’s Ministry annual budgets
  •        To participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly elders’ meetings, and quarterly members’ business meetings
  •        To perform funerals or weddings, as needed
  •        To provide pastoral counselling or mentoring, as needed
  •        To help oversee the supervisory roles of the Lead Pastor in his absence, in conjunction with the other Associate Pastor.
  •        To assist with the church’s internship program, as needed

       Other duties may be determined, based on the candidate’s personal passions, spiritual gifts, and abilities, as well as the church’s needs

Expected Time Allotment: Family/Children ministries 50%, Pastoral (shepherding, discipleship, preaching, etc.) 40%, Miscellaneous 10%

Details

  • Permanent position, tentative start date June 1, 2024
  • 40 hr./week
  • Annual salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and in keeping with FEB Central salary guidelines
  • Benefits (pension, health, mileage, etc.)
  • Three weeks of vacation leave annually
